The green festival goer: travel
Summer time means festival time. The time when all adventure loving Brits pack their tents and head off to enjoy long weekends of glorious sunshine and good music, or in some cases good music and the chocolate frosting magic of a complete mud bath. It could go either way, you’ll never know for sure until you’re there. But one thing is for sure, 2008 is the year to go green at your chosen festival. Yes, this year there’s no excuse for leaving a massive footprint behind when the festival is over, because instead of stomping around in your wellies and then abandoning them to landfill, over the next few weeks I’m going to give you all the information you need to have you treading lightly.
So let’s begin at the beginning and figure out how you’re going to get to the festival without leaving a massive trail of carbon dioxide behind you. How about looking into car sharing? It’s so simple to do these days with websites like Liftshare and Freewheelers, and it’s a great way to meet new people with similar interests. Other options include taking public transport, which many festival organisers actively encourage and provide station pick-ups and drop-offs for festival goers.
Your decision about how to travel may become clearer with my next post about festival accommodation, because if you’re not going to be carrying tons of clobber with you, you won’t necessarily need your car to get you there. More soon. Stay tuned.
