Green camping

When I came across this video on YouTube it got me in the mood for a spot of camping. The weather is not ideal at this time of year in the UK for pitching your tent, but if I had one of these I wouldn’t mind much.

For those of us who aren’t dreaming, it’s probably sensible to wait until Spring at least before heading out into the wilderness with our tents and sleeping bags. But that’s only a few months away now, so it wouldn’t hurt to start getting prepared. Here are some ideas for making sure that your camping (and festival) kit is as green as possible.

Solar Mobile Phone Charger - stay contactable by charging up with the sun.

Wind-up Radio - you don’t have to do without your news fix with one of these, and they’re handy for a bit of revelry round the campfire too.

Wind-up LED Lantern - no need for gas refills with one of these.

Wind-up Torch - for those middle of the night trips to the toilet.

Solar Shower - no more cold showers, or having to queue.

Water Powered Alarm Clock - not perhaps what you’d envisaged as essential camping kit, but useful if you need to get an early start.
