Sound Asleep Pillow

Sound Asleep PillowI’m not sure if the Sound Asleep Pillow is a good gadget or not. But either way, it definitely caught my eye. I’m one of those people who doesn’t like noise when they’re trying to sleep. In fact, even the sound of the mobile phone vibrating when a text message arrives is enough to wake me from sleeping.

Having said that, If I’m in a really noisy environment I’ll pop my headphones in to help me get off to sleep. The Sound Asleep Pillow takes the place of those headphones by playing music directly through its internal speaker. Before you ask, no, you can’t feel the speaker when you’re lying on the Sound Asleep Pillow.

The Sound Asleep Pillow is easy enough to use. You just plug in your device (iPod, MP3 player, radio or even the TV) in to the 3.5″ jack plug that’s built in to the Sound Asleep Pillow and you’re ready to go. There’s no mention of any control over the volume of the internal speaker, but I guess you’d use the device’s sound settings.

Whilst your device is plugged in to the Sound Asleep Pillow, only you can hear the output making this an ideal gadget to get if you’re a bit of an insomniac but don’t want to wake up the whole household at 3am. Costing from £12.99 it’s a great addition for any bedroom or indeed, for anyone going on a long flight.

Griffin AirCurve

Griffin AirCurveThe Griffin AirCurve is a great gadget if you have an iPhone. So what is it? The Griffin AirCurve is self powered acoustic amplifier. This probably doesn’t mean anything much to anyone, including me.

Well the Griffin AirCurve doubles as a dock for your iPhone in addition to being an acoustic amplifier. It has the standard port that plugs in to the bottom of your iPhone. What’s good about it is that it will increase the volume of the iPhone by 10 decibels. The Griffin AirCurve does this without needing any batteries or power supply.

The way it works is pretty clever. The Griffin AirCurve has been designed to work in a way that is similar to the human ear, but in reverse. The sound comes out of the speaker of your iPhone and travels through special tubular channels in the Griffin AirCurve that increases the volume as it travels along.

The Griffin AirCurve is made of see through acrylic which doesn’t look out of place on any desk. The Griffin AirCurve is compatible with the iPhone and iPhone 3G. Not sure about the 2nd generation iPod touch though. You can be sure that PriceGrabber will have the cheapest price available for the Griffin AirCurve so grab yours today!

Headphonies

HeadphoniesThese look like they could be a fun gadget to own. Headphonies are the latest novelty mini speakers to hit the market. They’re a combination of a cute novelty toy and a speaker that you can connect up to any device that has a 3.5″ jack socket.

So why would you want to get your hands on any Headphonies? Simply because they’re cool and funky and they are the must have gadget at the moment. Made of tough ABS, these 3″ toys are great as gifts too. Not only are they great as gifts, they’re highly collectable.

Headphonies can be used as a key ring, so they have a practical use too. So how do you charge the Headphonies? Well, like most gadgets these days, they are charged by plugging them in to a USB port on your computer. You know they’re charging because they have built in LED hearts which show you. How cute is that! You can get about 4 hours from a one hour charge.

The Headphonies are available in three designs at the moment: Pink Bear, Soft Touch and Mad Ape. Each of the Headphonies are limited edition and there are only 500 - 1000 of each available. Micro Speaker Keychain

Micro Speaker KeychainThis is a novel little gadget. The Micro Speaker Keychain does exactly what it says on the box; it’s a speaker and it fits on your keyring. The Micro Speaker Keychain plugs into your MP3 player’s headphone jack with the supplied cable and lets you share your music with your friends and buddies.

A great feature of the Micro Speaker Keychain is that it’s rechargeable via any USB socket so you don’t need to be worrying about buying batteries for it constantly. The good thing is that once it’s fully charged you can play your music through it for up to eight hours.

Indeed, any device with a 3.5″ headphone jack can make use of the Micro Speaker Keychain to play your music to others. So if your mobile has a socket the gadget will be of use to you too. I can see a problem with the Micro Speaker Keychain though. Many, if not all bus and train service providers don’t allow you to play loud music because it disrupts other passangers, so it might not be a good idea to use it in that situation.

The Micro Speaker Keychain is hardly going to break the bank either as it costs under £10 so if you really need yo listen to your tunes on the move, you should get this lovely little gadget.

Soundbulb

Soundbulb

When I first read about this over at Engadget, I did more than get a little excited. I mean, a light bulb and speaker in one unit… it’s just too good to be true. And that’s where my bubble was burst because it is, in fact, too good to be true. The Soundbulb is just an idea at the moment, but it seems quite feasible that it could be a gadget of the future.

I would certainly buy these if they were available; I mean, think of the possibilities. It’s like killing two birds with one stone isn’t it, a speaker and light in one unit.

So how do they work? Well, they would have a small wireless receiver module in them that would allow them to receive music that was streamed from a transmitter or even a computer.

I do like that fact that they are “normal” looking bulbs though because this means you wouldn’t have to change your current light fittings. A concern that I have is with them being energy efficient, but I’ve read that they’ll be using LEDs.

As I said, these are only theoretical at the moment so for now, you’ll have to kit out your home with energy efficient light bulbs, which in itself is a good thing not only for you, but the environment too. As always PriceGrabber has some great prices available for energy efficient light bulbs.

Outdoor Wireless Speaker

Long gone is the time when you had to have the hi-fi up full blast from the living room just to hear a whisper of your favourite tunes from the garden. With summer now in full flow, the back garden is the place to be for social gatherings of friends and you are going to need your tunes out the back to keep the party vibe going (and to annoy the neighbours).

So now is the time to invest in a proper little gadget for the summer and they don’t come much better than this Outdoor Wireless Speaker. It works by simply plugging your iPod, computer or any other sound-spiller that you have into the mains-transmitter (which is provided of course) then lugging your speaker out to the garden and your mains transmitter will stream all your tunes over wirelessly, voila! Easy peasy. What’s even better is all the volume controls, bass and what not are all on the speaker so you don’t have to run back inside to change the volume when old Mrs McLintoch next door tells you to pipe down (not that you would listen to her anyway).

As an added bonus this already funky looking speaker gets even funkier when night falls with its added cool blue light. It won’t illuminate an entire garden but it is definitely a snazzy little thing and will have your more drunk friends Oooh’n and Ahhh’n in its presence.
