HotCans
I remember seeing something like this when I was a young boy many years ago, and was surprised to see them back (or still around maybe?).
The way I remember these were in pouches come to think of it. You pressed a “button” in the corner of the pouch and the food was heated up for you. I had no idea how they worked then.
HotCans are available (as far as I can see) in three varieties:
- Beef Casserole
- Sausage and beans
- Vegetable Chilli
A great selection if you’re planning on going away for the weekend camping and don’t want to carry a barbecue or cooking stove with you. You don’t even have to wash up after yourself. Simply pop the empty can in a bag and recycle it when you get home.
So how do the HotCans work? Well, it’s as simple as heating them up on the stove at home, but not the same method obviously. Firstly you take the plastic lid from the top of the HotCan and place it on the bottom. Secondly, you use the supplied key to pierce the outer jacket of the can. Thirdly, you peel back the lid and wait for 12 minutes whilst your meal heats up. How simple is that! They work by exothermic reaction which is super safe.
I’ve been caught out on (although I don’t like to admit it) a number of occasions when I’ve forgotten the igniter for the stove or it’s started to rain and these HotCans would have been the ideal solution. Obviously, do remember to pack the knife, fork and spoon so that you can actually eat the delicious contents of the HotCans.
These simple, delicious and quite frankly ingenious foody gadgets are a must for any camping trip and, as always, they’re available through PriceGrabber for as little as £4.50 - great value!!
Velbon UP-400 Monopod
Wow, I seem to have been posting a lot about phones and broadband a lot recently. Sorry about that. I seem to have neglected that the summer is here and that you guys want to know about summery things. I doubt that you’re interested in me rambling on about getting broadband in the flat.
So, without further ado, let’s get on with writing about things that you want to read about.
I’ve been wanting a monopod for a while now and it seemed like a goot time to get one, what with the weather being good I thought. I decided on the Velbon UP-400 Monopod, because a friend of mine, who’s an avid photographer, recommended the brand to me.
I’m not disappointed with it at all. The Velbon UP-400 Monopod is lightweight, but sturdy enough to handle most SLR and Digital SLR cameras easily.
The thing about tripods is, whilst they are an extremely essential part of any photographers’ lit, they are bulky to carry around every where. I’ve found that the Velbon UP-400 Monopod gets much more outings with me than the tripod ever did and I’ve only had it a short while.
Using the Velbon UP-400 Monopod, or any monopod, is a bit weird to begin with, but once you get the hang of it taking pictures becomes a breeze. There will always be a situation where you need a solid surface for your camera but you find that a normal tripod won’t fit in the space, the Velbon UP-400 Monopod sorts that problem out for you. A monopod is much more manoverable too obviously.
I’ve also found with the Velbon UP-400 Monopod is that you can use it as a makeshift walking stick too if you’re out on long journeys. Excellent for the terrain we have around here. In the part of Wales where I live, there are many mountains, which is great if you like walking and photography (as I do) because you can combine two hobbies. It does however mean that the old legs get a great workout and sometimes the aid of a walking stick is advantageous. There have been a few occasions recently when the Velbon UP-400 Monopod has come in handy.
So, if you’re a budding photographer I would recommend you get a monopod as soon as you can. You won’t regret the purchase and will wonder how you did without it all these years.

Halsall Spiderman 3 - Bouncy Castle
When I was younger I had to wait until there was a carnival or fair in town to have a go on a bouncy castle. Nowadays, as you’ll see from this post, people are able to buy these for their own back gardens.
The Halsall Spiderman 3 Bouncy Castle is just that. A bouncy castle you can set up for your own kids to enjoy when ever they want (dependant on the weather obviously). The Halsall Spiderman 3 Bouncy Castle. This one is based on Spiderman 3 (obvious really from the title).
The Halsall Spiderman 3 Bouncy Castle is for the younger kids in the family though, so no adults allowed. Which is a shame really because we have so much fun on the trampoline once we’ve finished the barbecue.
Measuring 152 x 160 x 185cm, this is great for any child (3 or over) who aspires to be a super hero in their own right. They’ll have hours of fun playing out their fantasies on the Halsall Spiderman 3 Bouncy Castle. This bouncy castle is great because it costs under £20, which is great on your pocket and will keep the kids quiet.
As I always say at the end of most of my posts, PriceGrabber have scoured the internet to find the best deals available, so that you don’t have to.
Tomorrow I’ll write about a great addition to your cooking utensil range, and one that is specially suited for this time of year.

Moontent
This is a great addition to any day trip that you might be planning on going on soon (if the weather holds up that is). The Moontent is a two person tent that’s as easy as pie to set up. There’s no need for clumsy poles and fly sheets. The Moontent is an all in one tent. You do however have to peg it down.
Measuring just 50cm when folded, the Moontent is definitely one of the smallest tents on the market right now. Ideal for putting in the boot of the car for when you go to the beach or park. The Moontent can literally be pitched in seconds. And let’s face it, with the weather we’ve been having recently, every second counts.
The Moontent is great for providing protection from the sun too because the fabric has been treated to give you a sun protection rating of UPF50 (Ultraviolet Protection Factor 50), which is the highest rating that you can get. Which is another great reason to get this tent.
Weighing just 2.5Kg it’s not that heavy to carry around either. The Moontent is quite possibly one of the best buys you can make if you plan on being in the great outdoors this summer. As always PriceGrabber has done all the searching for you and found the cheapest prices available. So, grab one today for about £30 - you can’t really go wrong.
Summer Holidays
Well, it’s definitely that time of year again because there are literally hundreds of kids playing and shouting around this area.
The schools closed last week so it is now officially the summer holidays. Six weeks off for the children and even more for the students. I remember when I was younger when we’d go away for day trips on the train to various parts of Wales. We never got to go abroad for our holidays as my parents were always working and couldn’t get the time off during the summer. We did go to London for a week once though. That was fun.
What I intend doing on this blog over the coming weeks is write about gadgets that will appeal to both adults and children alike. Obviously they will have a summer based theme. Although having said that and looking at the window, you’d think it was winter. There are heavy showers here at the moment.
I’m not actually going away anywhere this summer (or at least I don’t think I am) because of me relocating to another country. Don’t worry though, I’ll still be in the UK. I’m just moving from Wales to England to continue with my degree.
I hope you all enjoy what I have planned for this blog and that you find some inspiration for keeping the kids amused over the coming weeks be it sun or rain. There will always be a post here for you to look at, and hopefully be able to find something that catches your eye.

Cash Stash Keychain
This is a handy little gadget that you could give someone as a gift. The Cash Stash Keychain would be great to have over the summer holidays, especially if you’re likely to attend one of the many music festivals that are happening all over the country.
The Cash Stash Keychain can help keep some of your money safe and dry, so long as you don’t lose your keys obviously. The Cash Stash Keychain will hold your money safe and secure within its aircraft grade aluminium shell.
It would be great to have one of these if you find yourself stuck without any money for a taxi home at the end of the night, or even if you find yourself running short of money and don’t really want to make that trek all the way to the cash point. The Cash Stash Keychain could save you a lot of embarrassment if you find yourself short of cash in the pub when it’s your round too. I’m talking from experience here… I’ve had to do the walking to the cash point thing to pay for a round of drinks.
The Cash Stash Keychain will pay for itself many time over if you use it often. It costs under £5. That’s a small price to pay for peace of mind that you’ll have some spare cash somewhere safe. Get yourself one today!

Ice Cream Ball
I think that the summer is finally here and that means we get to eat some lovely ice cream. But not everyone has an ice cream van that comes round their streets. So why not have a go at making it yourself? The Ice Cream Ball is a great way of making ice cream and having some fun at the same time.
With the Ice Cream Ball you can put all your ingredients in one end and the ice and rock salt in the other. Then it’s just a matter of playing ball for a while. What could be simpler?
It does take about 20 minutes to make the ice cream in the Ice Cream Ball and the consistency of your finished ice cream will vary depending on the amount of ice and salt you put in, the ingredients and the amount of shaking that the Ice Cream Ball gets. If you’re not happy with the consistency of the ice cream just put the lid back on and play some more.
You can’t actually use the Ice Cream Ball as a football though because, let’s face it, who want a broken toe from kicking hard plastic about. You can pass it, shake it, dribble it and even roll it, but no kicking.
If you’re wondering why you need to add salt in with the ice then it’s because it helps the temperature become low enough for the ice to actually freeze your ice cream mixture. It’s all to do with thermodynamics.
Now is absolutely the right time to buy one of these great little gadgets and PriceGrabber is where to look for the best prices.

Gorillapod
Recently I’ve been doing a lot of filming as part of my degree course and needed to get a small camcorder high into the corner of a room. Having tried using all sorts of methods to get the camera in the right position someone suggested the Gorillapod.
The Gorillapod has been designed for use with compact cameras. But they have an SLR version too. That is the version I went for because I needed that little bit extra strength.
So what is a Gorillapod I hear you ask. I’m going to tell you now what a Gorillapod is.
The Gorillapod is a tripod, but a tripod with a difference. It still has three “legs”, but those legs are flexible. You can position a Gorillapod practically anywhere. Even those awkward positions that you thought you could never get to can now become possible.
The Gorillapod is truly a magnificent invention. I don’t know how we managed for so long without it to be honest. Sure, you could carry a conventional tripod around with you, but you wouldn’t get the flexibility that a Gorillapod offers you. With pricing ranging from £16.99 up to £39 there’s a Gorillapod out there for everyone (OK, maybe not absolutely everyone, but pretty much any amateur photographer).
It really got me out of a sticky situation when I was doing my work because the shot could never have been gotten. I highly recommend this one. It’s probably going to be the last compact tripod that you will ever buy. Ideal for taking on holiday with you too.
Oh, and don’t forget, it’s Fathers Day soon!!

R/C Drinks Cooler
It would seem that summer is finally upon us (hopefully) and that means it’s time to get those barbecues out. Obviously if you’re going to be having a barbecue then you need drinks to go with it.
That’s where the R/C Drinks Cooler comes in. The cooler is the ideal solution to keeping your drinks nice and cold in this heat and if you’re going to be eating burgers, sausages and chicken wings then you’ll need something nice and cool to wash them down with.
But the R/C Drinks Cooler is different to other cooler bags out there because, as the title suggests, it’s radio controlled. This makes it ideal even for couch potatoes who don’t really like to move much to get a cool drink. The R/C Drinks Cooler has a range of 30 feet and can carry up to 12 bottles. Having sure grip wheels means that the R/C Drinks Cooler won’t topple over on its delivery route.
This is a fun little thing and will have all your mates laughing as they pick up a nice cool beverage from it. They’ll probably even want to get one for themselves, so makes sure you point them in the direction of PriceGrabber. Costing under £40, it’s a sure fire hit this summer.
