Bright Coloured Trousers

I often get quite bored with wearing plain old jeans or black trousers all the time and want to add a splash of colour to an outfit with some brightly coloured trousers. Wearing brightly coloured trousers takes a little bit of thought. Too much colour can make you look like clown so balance out the bright colours on your bottom half with a more neutral of black top.

Fame - the film and the fashion

I loved Fame, the TV program and film first time around and was really excited to hear that the film is being rereleased and is out in the cinemas next week. Fame is all about the school of performing arts where young people go to try and get Fame. It features some great dance moves and some great dance fashion.

The release of this film coincides perfectly with the resurgence of all things eighties particularly fashion. If you want to get a bit of Fame fashion, get some leggings, a long off the shoulder T shirt and some legwarmers.

Relaxed Glamour at Tommy Hilfiger SS10

tommy-hilfiger-ss10-4.jpgtommy-hilfiger-ss10-3.jpgtommy-hilfiger-ss10-2.jpgtommy-hilfiger-ss10.jpg

I loved the cool combination of pale baby pink with navy blue at the Tommy Hilfiger SS10 collection, for a great contrast of soft and feminine with sleek and chic. The overall effect as described by the man himself was one of ‘relaxed glamour’. The tailoring was most definitely charateristic of that signature preppy American girl but it also had a fluidity and softer edge giving it an updated appeal.

This was a collection for those who love a classic and timeless look but with a twist. I loved it and will definitely be trying out the baby pink and navy combination.

Calvin Klein - Pure Minimalism SS10

calvin-klein-ss10-4.jpgcalvin-klein-ss10-3.jpgcalvin-klein-ss10-2.jpgcalvin-klein-ss10-1.jpg

 pictures from www.style.com

I have always loved Calvin Klein for minimalist dressing in it’s purest form. I have never really been much of a minimalist dresser but with Calvin Kleins latest collection I coudl well be persuaded to make an exception. I ahve always thought that the key to the best minimalist clothes is the most perfect of cut. There is no pattern or intricate detail to distract and so each piece of clothing needs to be perfectly formed in fabrics of the highest quality.

Calvin Kelins SS10 collection included plenty of pieces which could easily be described in this way from the a line dress to the one sleeved bubble dress. Each piece had it’s own character with bright whites, greys and blacks in true minimalist style.

NYFW 3.1 Phillip Lim

00010m.jpgphillip-lim-ss09-2.jpg

It seems that Phillip Lim can do no wrong lately, with collections that are snapped by celebritiess and fashionistas alike. His sophisticated but laid back brand of tailoring has won him multiple brownie points with each and every collection he shows. He keeps his feet firmly on the ground designing clothes that real women love to wear. The SS10 collection that he has just shown at New York Fashion Week is no different with his latest version of the suit which includes an unlined jacket that is thin enough to be tucked into the trousers for a new twist on the classic look. His dresses were feminine, flattering and with great and unusual detail, just what ever girl wants from a dress.

Dip dye and ombre

Last year I loved the dip dye or ombre trend so I was delighted to see that it was back again this autumn and winter. Dip dye and ombre is used to describe the gradually lightening effect of an item of clothing or the effect when it has been dipped into a dye giving a graduated colour. This seasons ombre and dip dyes pieces are updated with the addition of details like patterns or stripes of other colours.

Finding the best party dress in the UK

I have a very special party to go to quite soon. I will definitely be needing a new party dress and I don’t just want any old dress. So I have tasked myself with finding the best party dress in th UK. This will be quite some task considering the vast amount of choice of party dresses in the UK. Here are some of the choices.

The classic women’s white shirt

uma-thurman.jpg

picture from NYtimes.com

Ever since Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction, the white shirt has been elevated to a wardrobe must have and classic item to be worn for day time, evening or wherever you want.

A simple style of white shirt is really versatile and will look go with so many different outfits. Keep it extra clean and bright white for maximum impact. A slightly grey colour just doesn’t have the same effect.

Uma’s white shirt was simple, clean and crisp  with cufflinks on the cuffs. White shirts are traditionally great for wearing in the office but with a bit of thought are also a very stylish option for a night out. Try adding one or more of the following to give your crisp white shirt a bit of glamour - bright red lipstick, glittery jeans or trousers, a statement necklace or some ladies cufflinks.

Zebra Prints

When it comes to bold monochrome or black and white clothes, zebra print was probably one of the oldest patterns to be used. Of  course it keeps coming back year after year and for me it has a slightly retro quality which I love. It also feels really fun which I also love. If you don’t want to be zebra all over, there are lots of great ways to work this style.

The Yellow and Black Dress

atautou_gl_5may09_wenn_b_320×480.jpg

picture from www.glamourmagazine.co.uk

Few would think of wearing a yellow and black dress but Audrey Tatou showed just how stunning it can look when she wore this yellow silk dress with a black waistline, teamed with zipped shoes by Sergio Rossi, for the Spanish premiere of her new film Coco Avant Chanel in Madrid. It takes someone who is fairly confident of their own style to wear a yellow and black dress but when done right it is a really striking combination. Here are some quirky but very stylish black and yellow combinations.
