The Yellow and Black Dress

picture from www.glamourmagazine.co.uk
Few would think of wearing a yellow and black dress but Audrey Tatou showed just how stunning it can look when she wore this yellow silk dress with a black waistline, teamed with zipped shoes by Sergio Rossi, for the Spanish premiere of her new film Coco Avant Chanel in Madrid. It takes someone who is fairly confident of their own style to wear a yellow and black dress but when done right it is a really striking combination. Here are some quirky but very stylish black and yellow combinations.

Yellow Shoes
When it comes to choosing new shoes, yellow is not often a colour that immediately springs to mind. Yellow shoes are an original, fresh and attention grabbing fashion statement. For summer they look great with bare legs and a summer dress. For autumn and winter there are plenty of opportunities to combine with a variety of rich colours for a show stopping look. Try deep purples, oranges, browns and reds. Bright tights are also a great way to make your legs and feet a real talking point.

Christian Dior - Cruise Collection 2009
Pictures from Elleuk.com
Spring Summer 09 is a long time to be thinking ahead, especially when we haven’t really got to spring summer 08. But in the fashion world, everything seems to happen way in advance, perhaps this is where the phrase fashion forward comes from. The first of the 2009 cruise collections are now out. These are the collections that come out before the main Spring Summer collections and seem to give a bit of a preview of what is to come. The 2009 cruise collection chows have already swung into action with Christian Dior and Oscar De La Renta. My post today is about the Christian Dior collection by John Galliano which I though was stunning and gorgeous in every way.
Colour was a key theme for the collection with bright fuschia pinks, lime greens, yellows and whites. Galliano managed to give the collection a bit of a sixties feel without it being full on swinging sixties. The collection featured ruffles and kaftans, Capri pants and sheer layers nothing really new, that we have not seeing this summer but he did it with the juiciest of colours finished off with large shimmering earrings and embellishment.
It might not be 2009 yet. But you can still get this gorgeous and colourful look wearing these pink slim leg cropped trousers

Mellow Yellow
I love yellow. Yellow is the colour of daffodils, warm sunshine and sandy beaches. It is not yet even spring and I have already bought myself two new yellow summer tops. There were plenty of different shades of yellow to be seen at the spring/ summer 08 catwalk shows from bright yellows to acid and mustard yellows.
For those who think that yellow is just not for them, here are some of my thoughts on yellow. If you have never tried yellow - try it on, you might find that it really suits you. Try different shades and tones of yellow. Whilst acid yellow might give you the complexion of a corpse, mustard may make your complexion glow. Be careful what you combine with yellow, some shades of yellow combined with black can look a bit bumble beeish. If the thought of wearing yellow all over is just too much to contemplate, try yellow with a pattern, this will sort of tone down the severity of the yellowness. You could also try yellow accessories such as a bag to brighten up an outfit.

If bright yellow is not for you, try this Sara Berman Tea Dress in a subtle yellow print.
