Milan - Prada AW09

Prada is always one of the shows that I usually rush to look at from Milan Fashion Week. It is almost always a show that is talked about in some way or another. For autumn winter 09, it showed none of the brightly coloured prints of many of the designers form London Fashion Week. It featured brown boiled wool coats, jackets and dresses as well as knitted cardigans and long thigh length leather boots and cardigans, again all in exactly the same brown. There were also some dresses and jackets in dark velvets and autumnal hues. The silhouette and overall look had a definite feel of the forties about it.

At first this collection struck me as a bit boring. But on second look, I have changed my mind. The collection was inspired by outdoor living and conjures up images of Madonna on her country estate. But there was as always with Prada, a bit more to it than that. Here and there, there were small flashes of bright red. A clutch bag or a  glimse of red underwear.

Except for the thigh high wader  and fisherman references, I actually quite liked this collection. Very appropriate for the current economic conditions, it featured the sorts of key investment buys that all the magazines are encouraging us to look for.

I love accessorising expecially with Jewellery and I love Prada (who doesn’t) so I was quite excited to discover in Nylon Magazine that Prada is launching a line of costume jewellery.

The jewellery is cool , glamourous and ultra chic as would be expected. It is likely to be reasonably affordable so if you want to buy into the Prada look without breaking the bank then this is the way. The jewellery includes resin and Rhinestone necklaces which are completely different to everything I have ever seen. They are polished and luxurious but also great for every day wear. They would look equally good with a day dress or jeans and a cashmere jumper. This chunky and interesting costume jewellery would also look amazing with this seasons must have black polo neck jumper.

Milan Fashion Week - Prada

Prada, one of the biggest and well known fashions labels, is key in setting the agenda for the whole of the fashion world. Miucca Prada has proved yet again, that there is a very good reason why Prada is arguably the most sought after brand in fashion. The Milan fashion show was predictable in it its unpredictability. The show was a stark contrast to Spring Summer 08, where the outfits were ethereal and fanciful. For autumn winter 08, Miucca showed a much more grown up collection in handcrafted lace. Apparently, 600 metres of it were imported from Switzerland.

The majority of the clothes were in black with a few other colours such as cream, blue and beige. In each of the different colours the lace took on a different feeling. The black was definitely seductive, but the other colours had more pretty and demure feels about them. All of the calf length lace dresses were simple designs with varying underlying fabrics and garments to add some interest. Many of the outfits featured a lace pelmet around the waist. If previous Prada collections are anything to go by, lace looks to be  a key trend for autumn winter 2008.

This beautiful pure silk knee length lace dress by Aftershock would be a great way to wear this trend if you can’t quite afford the Prada price tags.
