Maxi Dress Round Up

The maxi dress trend from last summer has hung around through the winter and is back with a vengance for this summer. It looks like it is going to be here to stay and I am very happy. I love the maxi dress, it is a feminine style great for covering up legs and perfect for working the boho look. The maxi dress is fast becoming a wardrobe staple with all sorts of styles that are suitable for daytime, evening and formal. So to celebrate the longevity of the maxi dress, here are some of my favourites.

The Maxi Dress is Back Again

After last years disappointing summer, I hardly got the opportunity to wear my gorgeous By Malene Birger Maxi dress. It was a real shames as it is a lovely dress but just not very practical for the horrendous weather that we encountered last year. The good news  for this year is that it is supposed be a long hot summer (please don’t quote me on this though) and the maxi dress is back again. With all doubts about inaccurate weather forecasting put to the back of my mind, my thoughts are again turning to the maxi dress. Of course I hope to get some more wear out of my By Malene Birger dress butI am also planning on another addition to my one maxi dress collection.

The term maxi dress really describes any floor length a line dress but there is a huge variety of styles with different necklines, sleeves and patterns. I really love the feminity if the maxi dres and the way it can be worn for evenings out or parties but also to add a bit of glamour in the day time. It has a definite feel of the seventies about it. I love all things boho so there is no surprise really that I love the maxi dress.

Happy Birthday Gucci

Can you believe it? The Gucci brand has really come of age. In celebration of their 70th Anniversary, they showed their first formal cruise collection show in Rome last night. The show was followed by a no expense spared dinner for 300 people and a party afterwards at Rome’s Villa Aurelia that I would have so loved to go to. But enough about the celebration what about the clothes. The high lights of the night were the show stopping evening gowns in the colours of the Italian flag in tribute to the city of Rome. The rest of the collection wasn’t bad either. It had a distinct seventies feel to it with long flowing dresses, thigh high minis and centre partings everywhere, reportedly inspired by Talitha Getty, Lee Radziwill, and Jane Birkin. The colours were warm and earthy browns, teal and oranges teamed with white for an eye catching effect. Bold retro prints just added to the cool retro vibe.I’ll have to admit whilst the collection was not really breaking any new ground. I loved it for it colourfulness and that nostalgic seventies style that I am so fond of.guccir08.jpg

This is the ultimate Maxi dress- great if you ahve the figure and the money.

Dress to Impress - The Maxi Dress

With the sex in the city girls wearing a uniform of maxi dresses whilst on holiday in Mexico in their newly released film, I have become even more obsessed with this seasons must have dress. There are so many different options in the shops from formal and dressy to floral and boho. But the Maxi dress can be a bit tricky to wear. Here is my guide to finding the right maxi dress for your shape.

Petites - Avoid Gypsy skirts as the volume of these will only make you look shorter and wider instead opt for more fitted styles and chunky wedge heels to complete the look. Also opt for block colours and small prints to keep the look in proportion.

Tall - You will look great in almost any style of maxi dress.Pear Shaped - The maxi dress is great for disguising a large lower half. Keep the top fitted to keep the whole look proportioned and look for tops with detail to draw the eye upwards.Apple Shape - A line maxi dresses will look great on you. The material will skim over your stomach without adding too much volume.Bigger Bust - Maxi dresses can be a bit tricky for those with a bigger bust. Avoid spaghetti straps. A halterneck top will be the most flattering make sure it is a really good fit.Larger ladies - Maxi dresses are a flattering and feminine style for larger ladies go for bold and bright large scale prints for a great effect. 41360m.jpg
