Keep it under your hat

Fashion 156 is my secret indulgence. The place where I go when I am supposed to be working but need a bit of creative stimulation. The photography is amazing and the fashion unique and interesting. I can never wait until the next edition comes out to see what delights they have in store.

This issue is all about hats which is quite topical considering the freezing cold weather. But hats aren’t just about keeping warm they can also be a huge style statement. They can create a really dramatic look that perhaps not everyone can carry off, but if done right then the effects can be stunning.

This hat has a bit of carnival style to it. It is defintely for someone with a big personality and would look more at home in Rio than a trip down the local Tesco’s.

Hats are not the only dramatic headwear. This is actually a necklace made into a headpiece. I love the colours.

Perhaps inspired by a scorpian, this hat has a very stylish sting its tail.

Fridays Frugal Reads

With all the fuss of  a recession, I have been reading up on credit crunch style this week and how to look great on a budget. Here are some of my favourite reads.

Holiday gift tips on a budget, The Budget Fashionista’s economic survival guide - The Budget Fashionista gives some great tips on how to survive Christmas with not much money. I just love this blog, it has so much great advice.

Save time and money with a checklist This great post fom Budget Babe has made me think carefully about how I aproach a shopping trip. Much better to research online and think carefully about it rather than just hitting the shops.

Christmas Party Season Dresses - The Rules - If you are looking to have a frugal christmas but still look great at your christmas parties, this post by cheap clothes rule is just what you need.

Are you addicted to bargain hunting? This post by Cute but Affordable will make you laugh - if you do it is probably because this is you. Take the test and find out.

A Closet Full of Wearable Clothes - this interesting article by Melissa Tossetti Editor/Publisher of  budgetsavvymag.com gives some great ideas on how to be a tight wad when it comes to new clothes but still look great.

Frugal fashion: New Yorkers learn to look good for a lot less this article from the NY daily news shows how New Yorkers work that recessionista look.

My favourite frugal fashion  buy is this glamorous wrap dress in organic cotton. A wrap dress is a classic style that is really flattering and is unlikely to go out of fashion and the price is definitely frugal!

My Favourite Fashion Sites

I like to take an interest in fashion as you might have noticed. Some may even say it is a bit of an obsession (but I wouldn’t call it that). I like to regularly read fashion magazines and websites and so today I thought I would share with you some of my favourites which give me much enjoyment and insight into to the latest trends.

Style.com - This is the most comprehensive website I think. It has all the trends, all the fashion shows and a lot more. I look at it practically everyday at least once.

Elleuk.com - again this site has great coverage of all the major catwalk shows, excellent trend reports and some great fashion and style features. I get the magazine by subscription don’t need to read it very often. Fashion156 - This is a great site if you love art/photography. They do great fashion shoots, often using slightly more unusual clothing and retailers.Dazed and Confused - This has some great feature articles and information on the latest designers.

Hint Mag - This is a great cutting edge online fashion magazine. It has articles on new up and coming designers.

Nylon Mag - A great and very stylish online magazine with lots of interactive features.
