Boris on the cover of Elle

This months edition of Elle features Boris Johnson on the cover. A unlikely choice, but he is famously blonde with his own sense of style and an advocate for London fashion. The cover shot shows a black and white image of the mayor London standing with his hands crossed across his chest in a traditional suit. He is surrounded by red writing which is the lyrics of the Clash’s London calling. Boris also wrote the Editor letter for the issue.
Unfortunately, the issues of Elle with the Boris cover will not be available for general public consumption but will become collectors items when they are sent as agift to VIPs and figures from the fashion world as well as being given to the front row at selected shows at London Fashion Week later in the month.

Start your own fashion and style photo blog
I love blogging and reading fashion and style blogs. It is a great way to find out about the latest trends and get lots of fashion and style inspiration. If you like styling your own outfits and have a unique and individual style of your own, why not start your own fashion and style blog? It is great fun and could even lead to an exciting new career.
Starting your own fashion and style photo blog is really easy. There are a number of free blogging platforms that you can use but blogger is probably the easiest for a beginner to use. Your blog should be completely unique to you. You could write about your favourite fashions or create a style journal with pictures of different outfits that you have put together. If you love vintage clothes, why not have a blog about vintage clothes. There are so many great fashion and style blogs to look at for some inspiration. Some of my favourites are Style Bubble, Kingdom of Style, Flying Saucer and The Coveted.
In order to take photographs of your outfits you will need a basic SLR camera. The Nikon D40 is generally considered a great lightweight and compact SLR for a beginner and will allow you to take some good quality to pictures to post on your blog. You will probably also need a tripod and remote if you want to take pictures of yourself. There are some great tips on taking photographs for your fashion blog on How to take gorgeous self portraits. This week seems to have gone on for ever. It is a bit of a relief to finally sit down and have a good read of some of my favourite fashion blogs. Here are my favourite posts for this week.
Munique Fashions showed some of the more outrageous takes on the fringe trend and also suggested some much more wearable options in Fringe Festival.
The Coveted has discovered some very unusual and charming head wear in her post A Little Flying Fawn Landed on My Head.
Queen Michelle of Kingdom of Style wrote an interesting post entitled the Pull of Pollini in which she describes how she has really noticed the label since Johnathan Saunders became Creative Director last year.
Nasty Girl shows how to do harem pants in style with some gorgeous vintage versions in the post Harem Scare ‘Em.
Disney Roller Girl looks at the Eighties revival and the return of the bodysuit in her post Foundation Course
I am loving the Pastel issue of Fashion156. Some very gorgeous and feminine clothes.

A Picture of Fashion

picture from www.mariotestino.us
I love reading Vogue and other fashion magazines. What makes them so special is the clever way that they photograph the lovely designer clothes. Peruvian born Mario Testino is one of the best known fashion snappers. He is recognised for his talent of photographing couture clothes and for his ad campaigns for major brands like Burberry and Versace aswell as his portraits of many famous people. In addition to Vogue, his photos appear in many other publications including Vanity Fair and Harpers Bazaar. What I really love about Mario’s fashion pictures are the bright exotic colours that bring the picture to life. He manages to capture something very beautiful about both the clothes and the models that he photographs.
Testino’s work is admired by many and widely considered art. His poularity with glossy magazine editors and the big fashion labels is his ability to sell clothes with his photography.
If you fancy having a go at taking some really professional photographs it is important to have the right equipment. I like the Canon EOS 450D SLR Digital Camera. A light weight camera for the serious photographer with 12.2 megapixels.
