Fame - the film and the fashion

I loved Fame, the TV program and film first time around and was really excited to hear that the film is being rereleased and is out in the cinemas next week. Fame is all about the school of performing arts where young people go to try and get Fame. It features some great dance moves and some great dance fashion.

The release of this film coincides perfectly with the resurgence of all things eighties particularly fashion. If you want to get a bit of Fame fashion, get some leggings, a long off the shoulder T shirt and some legwarmers.

Confessions of a shopaholic

confessions-of-shopaholic.jpg

If like me, you are a shopaholic and love a good film, you will probably love the latest fashionista must see film, Confessions of a Shopaholic. The film is light hearted, feel good and romantic, just what you need for a girls night in. It stars Isla Fisher in a story line about a college graduate, shopaholic getting a job as a financial journalist in New York. Whilst this film shows shopping in the extreme, there are parts that will seem quite familiar to some of us. Rebecca Bloomwood, the main character unintentionally earns critical acclaim for her financial writing due to her clever metaphors and comparisons. In the end she discover that excessive shopping does not bring happiness and questions her true ambitions.

Overall a funny and heart warming film with a great chemistry between the actors and actresses. Perhaps a cautionary tale for those of us with shopaholic tendencies.

The September Issue

The 2007 September edition of Vogue is notorious for it’s 840 pages most of which consisted of advertising. I am just wondering how many rainforests that equates to. The fly on the wall documentary about the making of ‘the September Issue’ will be released worldwide in September and is eagerley awaited by the worlds fashionistas.

The film is made by the aclaimed Director, RJ Cutler and his film crew who followed the team around and were given unprecedented access to the Vogue  offices in Time Square. The film is made throughout the nine month run up to the September issue and includes fashion week, photo shoots and reshoots and meetings. It gives an unusual insight into the world of a top fashion magazine and the amazing amount of work that goes into producing just one issue. It features both Anna Wintour and Brit Grace Coddington, Vogues creative director.

I can’t wait to see just what goes on behind the closed doors in the couture lined corridors and staff meetings at Vogue. This will definitely be another fashion film to add to my must see list.

I love watching film and I love fashion, but what I really love most is watching films with great fashion in them. The Sex And The City Film was great and the clothes were amazing. Over the years there are lots of films that have had a huge influence on the way I and others dress.

For me one of the most influential fashion films is Breakfast at Tiffanys. Audrey Hepburn in her role as Holly Golightly was so polished and lady like in her little black dress, pearls and gloves. This film quite rightly elevated her to the status of style icon and made the Little Black Dress what it is today.

Some of the other fashion films I love watching are:

Pulp Fiction. The white shirt and black capri pants worn by Uma Thurman are classic and proof that its not about what you wear it is how you wear it. The film also sparked a trend for Chanel Rouge Noir nail varnish which is still my favourite colour nail varnish of all time.

Love Story is also a classic with the American Preppy look that was popular in the seventies.

Mahogany featuring Diana Rosshad great retro clothes were also also designed by Diana Ross and inspired the Marc Jacobs Fall 07 collection.

I think I might spend a cosy afternoon in front of the TV watching some of the best fashion films with this DVD box set including Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Sabrina and Funny Face.
