Calvin Kleins and boxer shorts
Some brands are so strong and well recognised that the brand name actually becomes a noun in it’s own right. Think of hoovers and ipods. Hoover has such a strong brand that the brand name has even changed into a verb. I don’t want to bore everyone with too much talk of grammar though.
In the fashion world this is not so common as most fashion labels are associated with a variety of clothes. One the brands that has achieved this status is Calvin Klein. The brand has become so strongly associated with boxer shorts and mens underwear that many now buy Calvin Kleins instead of pants or boxers. For men, if there jeans slip down slightly, the Calvin Klein logo on the waist band of their Calvin Kleins has long been the sign of a connoisseur of quality under pants.
