Designer Focus - Jil Sander
I thought I would post today about a very influential and minimalist designer. I love the designs of Jil Sander, a German designer known for her 1980’s suits in gey, blue, white or black. She pioneered the Zweibel look (meaning onion) which described the way she layered clothes.
Whilst Jil Sander began showing her collections in 1975, her work did not really become popular until the 90’s. The clothes that she fashioned of quality fabrics did not fit in with the lavish and over the top trends of the eighties. But she has now been recognised for her undeniable talent to make quality minamalist clothing. the label struggled following a buty out of 75% by Prada in 1999. Jil Sander walked out as she felt unable to continue with her creativity and perfectionism however it was not long before he returned in 2003. Unfortunately there were still insurmountable differences between Jil and the CEO of Prada and she left for good in 2004. Raf Simon now designs for Jil Sanders and whilst it is not as good as the real thing, I do still love the label.
