Up Pompeii - Greek Goddess Dresses
On the catwalk for spring summer 08, ancient Greek style and togas were a key influence, perhaps inspired by Elizabeth Taylor in 1963 film Cleopatra. The Greek goddess or toga style dress made of draped and flowing silk, chiffons and jersey is great for parties. The asymmetric, one shouldered styles and bias cuts give a long silhouette and have a very flattering and lengthening effect.

Long, elegant, floor skimming gowns were shown at Versace (left) and Missoni (right)

Metallics coloured materials and sparkling gold trim was a key feature of the short dresses at Hermes (left) and Preen (right)

Low key neutral colours and were great choices for these ultra wearable toga dresses from Alberta Ferretti (left) and Aquascutum (right).
The hand beaded rope straps and belt on this Amanda Wakeley dress gives it a real Greek goddess feel. The silk georgette has a flattering, body skimming effect making for a stunning dress to wear to parties.

February 25th, 2008 at 3:42 pmOn a personal note, Ceri, would it be possible for you to state who made and sells the “White Goddess” dress at the very top of this post (1st row of pics, the one on the left top corner). My partner and myself have been invited to a wedding in Istanbul and she just noted that she would love to wear this dress to that occassion. So I am trying to make it happen
Many thanks for this effort, and keep up the great work.
Best wishes, -Michael
