You Always Knew That The Teletubbies Would Like to Chew On Your Arm

It’s Sunday and I’m about to go to bed as I’m up for work early in the morning; but before I head off to the land of nod I’m going to show you a video that will help you sleep peacefully tonight, complete with a satisfied smile.

What’s scarier than hordes of extremely fast zombies running out of the darkness towards you? What’s scarier than a Witch than can incapacitate you with one swipe? What could be more terrifying than hearing a tank bounding around the corner behind you? Well, what? Hearing “La-La!” as you walk around a dark city, that’s what.

L4DMods (the credit goes to Flameknight7) have put together a mod for Left 4 Dead that replaces the infected in the game with characters from the children’s TV series, Teletubbies. Yes, you can finally shoot Tinky Winky in the face before taking a look at just what’s in that handbag of his, and why the hell he has one in the first place anyway.

My mum was a childminder, so Teletubbies was on in the house all the time as I was growing up. Having to sit through years of them saying the same thing over and over again, plus a sun with a baby’s face, I can safely say that I’m going to relish the opportunity to blow Po’s head off. Unfortunately that freaky bear that sticks its tongue out isn’t there, which is disappointing because I’ve always wanted to put a few slugs into it. Noo-Noo also doesn’t make an appearance, which is a big oversight because he could have replaced The Boomer and unleashed custard instead of vomit.

You can download the mod for yourself here, finally accomplishing what most of us have always wanted to do (unfortunately you can’t put Dipsy’s head on a stick and parade it around town manically laughing). Now if only we could gun down The Tweenies…

Fallout 3 Goes Green

Fallout 3 GreenWorld

The world of Fallout 3 can be a very depressing place; all that barren brown and grey with not a tree in sight (or at least one with leaves). To rectify the lack of ability to flex your green hands Khyrin of Fallout 3 Nexus (a modification site for the game) has created GreenWorld.

GreenWorld does exactly what it says on the tin and covers the post-apocalyptic Capital Wasteland in natural plant life. The soil may be charred, full of radiation and covered in debris; but when you look up and see a tree you’ll breathe a sigh of relief and hug it with all your might.

Ok, so maybe plant life would one day return to a nuclear scarred wasteland, but do we really need a mod that makes the game look like Oblivion? I loved the landscape of Fallout 3 because, as bleak as it may be, plenty of games have a landscape covered in green and it was something different. Of course, you don’t have to download the mod if you don’t want to but if it takes your fancy you can grab it from the link below.

Mods Come to Steam.

Insurgency.

Mods provide an excellent way of squeezing more life out of your PC games, and there’s even a few that become so popular that they eventually get picked up by a publisher and become a whole new game. One of the most modifiable engines out there right now is the Source Engine - which is the engine that games such as Half-Life 2 and Team Fortress 2 run on - and the creators of the engine, Valve, have always been extremely appreciative of the work the mod community does (such as hiring the people who make the mods). This appreciation has become evermore apparent as Valve has released five of the most popular Source mods for download on their digital distribution platform Steam.

The five mods you can now automatically install on Steam (you have to own a Source game, of course) are Age of Chivalry, D.I.P.R.I.P., Insurgency (above), Synergy and Zombie Panic. Each mod deserves a try (Insurgency is excellent) and, hey, they’re free so why not? Obviously you’ve always been able to download and install these mods but now the process is far easier. Each mod will automatically update like the rest of your games on the ‘My Games’ list, plus they’ll also have access to Steamworks which provides stat tracking amongst other things.

You can expect more mods to come but, for now, log on to Steam to try the first five out.
