Halo 3: Recon Revealed.

The above trailer may not show any gameplay, but it at least reveals the name of Bungie’s new game that was teased a few weeks back. The trailer was released at the Tokyo Game Show, which kicked off on Thursday, along with some details about the game.

Firstly, although the game has ‘Halo 3‘ in the name it is a stand-alone expansion and Halo 3 will not be required to play the game. This also means that the game will only see a boxed release and not a downloadable release as was previously speculated.  Despite being a game in its own right Bungie stressed to Kotaku that they weren’t viewing it as a full game that they “would think of it as our Frozen Throne,”alluding to Blizzards Warcraft III expansion.

The game itself will take placed in New Mombasa, which has been overrun by covenant forces. You’ll play as an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, which means you’ll have to have a more tactical head on you when it comes to battles as you can’t just dive in like Master Chief would. The developers also said that most of the battles would take place during the night.

As far as multiplayer goes it would be the same old Halo 3 multiplayer that people have already got used to, but with a few new maps thrown into the mix. However, for Halo 3 players Recon will have some goodies in store, as a Microsoft spokesman hinted to MTV Multiplayer.

This may be Bungie’s last Halo game, which is actually good to see as we may get some new IP’s. Plus, I’ve always thought the Halo series was average at best, at least singleplayer wise anyway (the screaming 12 year-olds on Xbox Live do bring the multiplayer side down a bit though) .
