GTA IV Downloadable Content May Not Be Available Until Next Year.
You may remember the deal that Microsoft managed to get with Rockstar, which had Microsoft touting exclusive “episodic” content for Grand Theft Auto IV. Microsoft reportedly paid $50 million just to get one over on Sony, so people are expecting some pretty decent content to come out of the deal. Of course, you’d probably be forgiven for forgetting about it as Microsoft have repeatedly said that we shall see the content this autumn (which is pretty much over now) and, lo and behold, the new content still isn’t here. Thankfully Rockstar have stepped in to give us an idea of why it’s taking so long.
Rockstar exec, Dan Houser, told Variety that a date is not confirmed but that “We hope to be announcing that in the next few weeks”. Houser goes on to say that Rockstar is more concerned with quality than dates and that “…it’s shaping up to be something we’re very proud of”.
Since it’s the first time that Rockstar have done something like this you have to remember that taking their time would probably work out the best for everyone. I’m not really that fussed about waiting another few months if the content is of better quality because of it. We’ve all seen what rushing things out of the door can do to games, and Microsoft may just have to wait to get their money’s worth. To be honest with all the great games out around Christmas Rockstar and Microsoft may benefit from waiting a bit longer than first planned. People have already played GTA IV and have moved on to new games, so maybe the downloadable content would fair better if it were to be released at a quieter time.
Whatever the case, it’s not like we haven’t got other things to play while waiting to have more adventures with Niko.
